NEST // the learning thermostat

We are slowly but surely bringing our 1929 Craftsman home into the 21st Century… this time, thanks to the new Nest Learning Thermostat.

You may remember from my posts last year that we are totally a “Nest” Home. From the Video Doorbell to the Security Cameras… we had almost every angle covered. Except our energy bill… so it was time to upgrade our thermostat and start saving.

Sam and I have been planning for this update since we moved in. Last December we spent our first week in this house and realized very quickly that this old home was a little drafty. Somehow, the thermostat never seemed to help and we spent all winter manually clicking the outdated thing up and down. Not fun on a winter morning!

So one of my favorite features of the new Nest Thermostat is that it actually learns what temperatures you like and when you like them, and then builds a schedule around you. Cool to sleep, and warm in the morning? No problem!

Beyond it’s "learning, you can control the Nest Thermostat from your phone and it also knows when you’re away (setting itself to “Eco Temperature” to save energy). This has been so useful for our random schedules and impromptu photoshoots. Plus, the doggos seem to appreciate a cozy temp even when we aren’t at home :)

Oh, and yes….it’s beautiful and BRASS! What more could a girl want?!

Needless to say, it’s been such a wonderful update and has taken the stress out of temperature control completely. Now, I’m really excited to track our energy savings and see how quickly the thermostat pays for itself :)
